Tips

Avoid toolbars.  They are spyware magnets and become infected easily.  You don't need them anyway and they just take up space in your browsing window.

Dump registry cleaners.  It's a spin off from the old Windows 98 days.  Your registry is too complex to rely on some automated process to go through and make decisions for you.

Use ONE anti-virus.

Close pop-ups with the X in the upper right hand corner of the window.  Spyware pop-ups can program their pop-up buttons to do anything even if it says CLOSE or NO Thanks.  Click the X.  If that doesn't work, use your task manager and close the whole browser. (Ctrl, Alt, Del)

Use Mozilla Firefox as a web browser when just playing around on the web.  No ActiveX like IE6, 7 and 8.  Less spyware automatically installing on your PC, but still be careful what you click on when surfing or in email.

New scam, If you've ever been to a web site and it comes up and say's, you need the new Flash to view this page (or Java), click here to update... Don't do it.  Granted most sites are legitimate (Mine too, I promise) but be safe elsewhere, go directly to Java and Flash sites and get the upgrade/update.  These bad guys get sneakier all the time to get you to install their spyware/malware.
